Emergency warnings issued for fires in Victoria’s southwest

A GRASSFIRE in cental Western Victoria is now under control, after prompting a message of advice from emergency services.
Residents were advised to monitor conditions in Lagi Kal Kal as a grassfire broke out.
There was no threat to the community, but residents were urged to keep roads clear and remain cautious.

The development comes after firefighters this morning battled a bushfire in Victoria’s southwest that is now contained.
Works continued throughout the night to strengthen control lines and black out the blaze in Mumbannar, 17km west of Dartmoor ahead of hot temperatures today.
There is currently no threat to communities, but you should continue to stay informed and monitor conditions.
Last night firefighters the spread of the fire, which is travelling in an easterly direction towards Mumbannar, and continued to battle the blaze.
Crews spent most of Thursday afternoon and night battling two separate fires in Victoria’s southwest.
The highway remains closed between the Dartmoor/Hamilton Rd in Dartmoor and the Glenelg Highway/Princes Highway intersection in Glenburnie (Mount Gambier) in South Australia.
Road blocks remain in place and traffic is being diverted though Casterton.

A Watch & Act message, which urges Mumbannar residents to review their fire survival plan and, if deciding to leave, take pets, mobile phones and medications, had beenin place.
An advice message is now posted for residents to read.
Residents are also urged to keep roads clear for emergency services, not to return home if away and monitor conditions for changes in the situation.
Another fire, which prompted an emergency warning for Alvie, Wool Wool, Dreeite South, Coragulac, Dreeite and Warrion, was brought under control about 9.30pm.
The CFA attacked the blaze on land, picking up water from Lake Corangamite to water bomb the fire with a helicopter, while residents enacted their emergency plans and checked on neighbours.
There is now no threat to residents.
