Victoria will be the home to one of the world’s largest batteries in the bid to improve reliability of the state’s energy system.
Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio unveiled the new project today that will see energy specialist Neoen deliver the 300 megawatt Tesla battery to be installed in the Moorabool Terminal Station near Geelong.
Ready to be used by 2021-22 summer, the battery will store renewable energy helping supply during peak periods and reducing wholesale prices.
“The big battery will help protect our network in summer, create jobs and drive down energy prices – as well as supporting our recovery from the coronavirus pandemic,” Ms D’Ambrosio.
“Victoria is embracing new technologies that will unlock more renewable energy projects than ever before – delivering clean, cheap, reliable power to all Victorians.”
Construction of the battery will create more than 85 jobs.
