FORGET “the garden state” — there’s a case for Victoria to be renamed “the lucky state” after it scored the most Tattslotto wins nationwide for the second year running.
Tatts’ annual “Lotto hotspot” figures have revealed a whopping 160 Victorians won division one prizes over the past year, earning more than $250.6 million in spoils.
The state easily trumped its nearest rivals Queensland (106 wins) and NSW (103).
Tattslotto’s 2013 figures also crowned Victoria as Australia’s most fortunate state.
Victoria’s largest Lotto prize of $16.67 million was won in Rowville.
The suburb also claimed the state’s most prizemoney in 2014 — $17.12 million from two division one wins.
Hoppers Crossing and Tarneit, in Melbourne’s outer west, were named Victoria’s luckiest suburbs for scoring the most division one Tattslotto wins, with six punters claiming a total of $12.72 million.
The 3029 postcode beat out nearby Werribee, which had four division one wins worth $2.54 million over the past 12 months.
South-eastern suburb Dandenong came in third, claiming $4.7 million in three prizes, followed by Preston and South Preston ($4.35 million in three wins) and Deer Park ($3.24 million in three wins).
Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs have been named as Victoria’s most fortunate region — home to 29 division one wins worth $18 million.
The city’s northern suburbs came in next with 25 prizes worth $36.89 million.
Among the region’s winners was a broke single dad from Preston who won $1.5 million in November, after a clairvoyant told him his money woes would soon disappear.
Melbourne’s east won the most prize money for the year — a mammoth $43.77 million from just 16 wins.
Tatts spokeswoman Belinda McDougall said buying a ticket in a statistically “lucky” area did not mean you would have a greater chance of winning.
“Lotto is a random game of chance,” she said.
“Regardless of where a ticket is purchased, every number on every ticket has an equal chance of being drawn.
