Vandals trash gravestones at Fawkner Cemetery
VANDALS have trashed a cemetery in Melbourne’s north for the second time in less than a year, with one woman saying her father’s headstone was vandalised yet again in the latest incident.

HEARTLESS vandals have trashed up to 20 headstones at a cemetery in Melbourne’s north.
It is the second time in less than a year that Fawkner Cemetery has been the target of such attacks and the families’ of the deceased are calling for better security.
Images posted to a local Facebook group show the damage which includes doors of graves opened and cards and pictures destroyed.

The post urged people with loved ones buried at the cemetery to “go and see if their gravesite is OK”.
One woman commented that her father’s headstone has been vandalised for the second time.
“It is really disrespectful and utterly disgusting how people can do this,” she wrote.
“It’s about time Fawkner … put up cameras and also more secure gates from back section of Mitchell area to keep these losers out,” another user wrote.

The area where the damage took place is understood to be in the Mitchell section of Fawkner Cemetery.
In August last year about 10 headstones were also trashed with gifts stolen and flowers strewn across the site.
The cemetery could not be reached for comment.
