LOCALS have been left “angry and offended” after signs advertising an Anzac Day dawn service were destroyed in a “senseless act of stupidity”.
Two signs promoting the Eltham RSL’s commemorative service were vandalised on Sunday night — just days before the site was expected to host more than 4000 people paying tribute to Australia’s service men and women.

Mayor of Banyule Mark Di Pasquale said the disrespectful act was completely out of line with the community’s attitude towards Anzac Day.
“We welcome these service men and women with open arms,” Mr Di Pasquale said.
“To see this total disrespect … it’s just senseless,” he said.
Mr Di Pasquale said the dawn service would still go ahead and steps were being taken to replace the signs immediately.
The Eltham War Memorial has hosted the dawn service for the past six years.
One sign was covered in purple graffiti while a second at the memorial on Main Rd was ripped from the ground and broken.
Montmorency local and Victorian Liberal candidate for Eltham Nick McGowan said the vandals had “dishonoured” the Anzacs.
“Words fail me … it’s completely offensive,” he said.
“It is not a random act,” Mr McGowan said.
