THE sky is the limit when it comes to the future of Australian fashion, with the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival unveiling its biggest runway program on Thursday.
Now in its 22nd year, and the largest consumer fashion event in the world, VAMFF is shooting for the stars with 50 runway shows, including 15 independent and offsite catwalks, menswear and a new bridal showcase.
“It really is about fashion-tainment,” says VAMFF CEO Graeme Lewsey.
“It’s a night out, and it’s an immersive experience of food, music, runways and education.”

The Exhibition Building and museum precinct, The Plaza, will be transformed into the city’s biggest fashion party, featuring a Mercedes-Benz-style hub, Mr Miagi mini degustation menu, complimentary hair and beauty touch-ups at Priceline and an interactive on-site shopping destination, allowing consumers to purchase the fashions fresh off the runway.
Having already championed for diversity and equality in the industry, Lewsey said this year’s festival is about looking to the future and sustainability.
“In order to deliver on consumer demand for instant gratification, the future is about responsible innovation and redefining the concept of sustainability,” he said.
More than 31,000 fashionistas purchased tickets to last year’s festival.
