Uber eating into delivery service profits

HUNGRY Melburnians will now be able to cheers their Uber driver as alcohol delivery is added to their service.

For the first time, wine and beer can now be added to the menu as part of UberEATS.

But don’t think you can use Uber as a bottle shop on wheels — alcohol will only be delivered with a food order and is restricted to a bottle of wine or six pack of beer.

And should you be drunk or under 18 with no proof of ID when the alcohol arrives, the booze will get returned back to the restaurant.

UberEATS Melbourne general manager Jodie Auster said more than 30 restaurants were part of the new service.

“Many of us enjoy a glass of wine or beer when dining out, and now we’re pleased to bring the same restaurant experience to homes across Melbourne,” she said.

To kick off the launch, UberEATS has partnered up with Carlton Draught, which has made a specially brewed beer to also celebrate the start of the AFL season.

This Friday, a four-pack of the speciality brew will accompany meals purchased as part of special meal deals.
