Truck veers off road in Heathmont, police tend to stuck driver

UPDATE: A TRUCK driver has been freed from his vehicle after veering off the road in Melbourne’s outer east, bringing down power lines in the incident.

A TRUCK driver has been freed from his B-double after he veered off the road in Melbourne’s outer east and was trapped for a period of time.

The man, in his 50s, was mechanically trapped in his truck after he veered off the road and crashed into a fence near Canterbury Rd in Heathmont this morning.

The Metropolitan Fire Brigade removed the man from the truck’s cabin.

The accident brought down power lines in the area and forced some neighbouring businesses to close.

Barclays Cafe in Heathmont has posted to social media apologising for their closure.

“We are very sorry a major speeding accident on Canterbury Rd Heathmont has closed us for the day,” the post said.

“Our phones are down as well.”

The man was taken to The Alfred in a stable condition with some facial abrasions.

One other person is being assesses by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries
