Three men inside the car were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

All outgoing lanes on Napier Street are blocked, with traffic being diverted through Yarraville.

The City of Maribyrnong has tweeted a picture of the container sitting on the road near the bridge.

The bridge is Melbourne’s most struck rail bridge and has been struck more than 60 times since 2010.

Napier St was recently closed for overnight works to fix the bridge, which is struck more often than any other bridge in Melbourne.

There are minor delays on the Werribee line.
