Toddler dies in dam tragedy near Nagambie

A two-year-old girl has died in a drowning tragedy at a rural property in the small town of Whroo, about 120km north of Melbourne.

A two-year-old girl has drowned in a dam at a property in regional Victoria on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred about 10am at a property in Whroo, near Nagambie, about 120km north of Melbourne.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said the child was pulled from the water unresponsive and was unable to be revived by paramedics.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Last year, 323 people drowned in Australia, with about 10 per cent of all drownings taking place in lakes and dams.

In 2024, 20 per cent of drownings occurred on private property, according to data from Royal Life Saving Australia.
