Opposition leader Matthew Guy has defended a Liberal Party advertisement that calls the Premier a “prick” and criticises jab mandates.
The ad, first revealed by the Herald Sun, was modelled entirely off CFMEU election posters which refer to Daniel Andrews as a “prick”.
The 15-second advertisement took inspiration from the powerful construction union, which warned members that “Dan might be a prick, but he’s a prick who’s delivering for construction workers”.
Mr Guy on Tuesday backed the campaign, but said voters would ultimately have the final say on November 26.
“To move on from the future, you have to remember the past and I think every Victorian knows how we’ve been treated by this Premier,” he said.
“Like the Labor Party runs ads about me, we run ads about them, that’s politics.
“If I took umbrage at all the times the Labor Party gave a sledge to me, I’d be permanently offended.
“That ad just uses the union movement’s own words against the Premier and I’ll let the state be the judge of it in three weeks.”
Mr Andrews refused to comment on political advertisements.
The Liberal advertisement, to initially run on social media platforms, takes inspiration from the powerful construction union, which warned members that “Dan might be a prick, but he’s a prick who’s delivering for construction workers”.
The Liberal’s rendition includes footage of angry construction workers taking to the streets in their hi-vis in protest of lockdowns during 2021.
“Remember when we hit the streets to protest against Daniel Andrews world record lockdowns?” the advertisement states.
“Remember when Andrews forced us to get the jab or lose our jobs?
“Now even our own unions are admitting he’s a prick.
“Don’t let him get away with it. Put Labor last.”
The advertisement comes just a week after the CFMEU’s ad was plastered on social media.
Labor this week also launched their own attack ad on Matthew Guy, panning his repeated line that a government he leads will deliver “real solutions for all Victorians”.
The 33-second ad compares the opposition leader’s promises to similar election commitments made by former Liberal prime ministers Scott Morrison and Tony Abbott.
