The Source: No questions asked over unique Cup Day fashion accessory
Crimes of fashion are not unheard of at the Melbourne Cup but, this year, one unique accessory took it to a whole new level.
There are crimes and there are crimes of fashion and sometimes they work seamlessly together.
At the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, an eagle-eyed observer snapped a fellow punter wearing a most unusual accessory — an electronic monitoring device around his ankle — while hanging out in Chairman’s Lounge.
Some fashion critics suggested his ensemble of sockettes and branded loafers was a crime in itself.
The Source did try to find out if the Flemington dress code covered such ankle bracelets.
But Victorian Racing Club types went a bit quiet shy, maybe too busily scanning the race-day dress protocols.
And far be it for The Source to act surprised that, gee whiz, a racecourse would attract any dodgy characters with experience in law-breaking matters.
