Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers
There are fresh murmurings of discontent at our nation’s most famous tennis club.
Word on the street – or Glenferrie Rd, to be more precise – is that some members of the esteemed Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club are disgruntled about fee increases.
The Source is hearing the price hikes are well beyond the rate of inflation.
There is said to be particular discontent about the cost of joining fees which, we’re informed, are pushing towards $7000.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard too much about affairs at the famous club.
Last year, there was widespread anger about a $2.4m loss from its hospitality operations, in a period in which it splurged $800,000 on Wagyu beef.
There are those who are now theorising about the possibility that the money drain and the increased fees are linked.
Meanwhile, the club is ploughing ahead plans for a massive redevelopment – if it can secure the cash from members, stakeholders and government authorities.
