Outgoing Mentone Grammar principal Mal Cater — who has faced claims he oversaw a toxic culture — has been gifted a portrait from students. Or so the school’s press release claims.

Outgoing principal of Mentone Grammar Mal Cater won’t be easily forgotten, particularly by the class of 23.
The year 12 cohort gave a portrait of the divisive figure as a gift to the rest of the school.
It’s part of a long tradition whereby the final year students choose artwork or useful equipment as their parting gift.
The portrait, by artist Vicki Sullivan, will hang in the school’s collection of past headmasters and principals in the Greenways Auditorium.
Was it commissioned to celebrate the great man’s tenure at the popular school, or the fact that he’s finally leaving after many years at the helm?
One insider told the Source that the year 12 class “didn’t have any say” in the choice of gift.
Yet the school’s official statement says: “as is the usual procedure, the student leaders considered a number of options and on behalf of their year group, chose Mr Cater’s portrait, as they thought this best reflected their appreciation of all he has done for them throughout their time at the School. They also wanted to acknowledge his 17 years of exemplary service to the school.”
Despite some staff rumblings in recent days, the school promoted the gift on its Facebook page, where it was warmly received by past parents – including a couple of people with the last name of Cater.

Karen from Brighton finds new target of scorn
Karen from Brighton has adopted a new best enemy since long time foe Dan Andrews left the building and turned up in New York.
“This is the flog that hacked my Instagram,” she has posted.
“As if Karen would be into crypto. Duh!!”.
It appears that some nefarious person hacked her account and started spruiking the wonders of cryptocurrency.
Acquaintances spotted the scam when a fake post suggested that Karen, ala Jodi Grollo, was boasting about “a $10K profit”.
As one pointed out, such a trifling sum represents “lunch”.
Karen grew to be an unlikely voice during lockdowns, when she teed off about state government edicts on where you could walk.
On Andrews’ resignation in late September, she took to Insta, with a glass of Champagne, to croon:
What a beautiful day
Dan’s finally going away
What a beautiful day.
