The Source: Former Greens Yarra mayor Sophie Wade takes credit for a ‘sh*t tonne of trees’ — and a very sad playground

The Source was somewhat confused to find both a “sh*t tonne” of trees and a very sad park among the stated achievements of one Greens Yarra council candidate.

Collingwood parents angry over playground 'upgrade'

Former Greens mayor Sophie Wade is running again for election in the City of Yarra, and her campaign material caught The Source’s attention.

Her election flyer boasts that the Greens had created six new parks.

Maybe, but that would include the infamous Cambridge St reserve in Collingwood which gained notoriety as having the country’s “saddest playground”. Not something to brag about perhaps.

And let’s not forget that when Yarra was shamed into fixing the park, Ms Wade then voted against the plan to actually provide some play equipment for local kids.

Also, Ms Wade proclaimed that Yarra had planted a “shit tonne of trees”. Not sure if that’s an official arboreal measure.

Anyway, there’s strangely no mention of the mature trees chopped down during the Burnley Golf Course revamp when the council forgot to conduct an environment impact study. How’s them for “green” credentials?
