Anger over Dan Andrews statue plan

Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers.

Organisers of the Adult Industry Choice Awards have backed out of a decision to nominate former Victorian premier, Daniel Andrews, for a controversial prize.

The black-tie awards ceremony will be held at Rod Laver Arena on Thursday night.

However, Sebastian Ryan, director of the event, said Mr Andrews was initially short-listed for an award, in a category recognising a particular sex act, for rear-ending Victorians during 262 days of pandemic lockdowns.

But Mr Ryan said after careful consideration, the cheeky nod for Mr Andrews had been withdrawn.

“With everything going on in the world right now, we believe we all need a good laugh more than ever,’’ Mr Ryan said. “We know Melburnians can appreciate our humour and targeting Dan, which makes us even more excited for the event to be open to the Melbourne public for the first time this year.’’
