The transformation of the old Franco Cozzo building in Footscray into the Moon Dog Wild West Brewery has not gone down well with everyone in what has traditionally been a working-class suburb.

It seems the good folk of Footscray may not be quite ready for the hipster hordes yet.

The Moon Dog Wild West Brewery opened last month in the old Franco Cozzo building on Hopkins St amid much fanfare.

But the venue has now been vandalised with the message “Go back to Fitzroy”. Not quite the welcome from the locals the owners might have hoped for.

It’s all the talk of a Footscray community Facebook page amid complaints about noise and the cost of drinks.

But one local probably best summed it up: “Keeping the Hipster barbarians at the Gates of Footscray.’’

For the record, Moon Dog’s HQ is not in Fitzroy, but in Preston which still qualifies as Hipsterville because it’s where all those free spirits move to when they grow up and start having kids.
