Jacinta Allan has revealed she has had a number of conversations with Daniel Andrew since becoming Premier, calling on her old boss as she settles into the state’s top job.

Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers.

Jacinta Allan says she has stayed phone buddies with her predecessor Dan Andrews as she settles into her new gig.

Dismissing speculation of a falling-out between the pair, Ms Allan said she had spoken to Andrews, last sighted in New York, multiple times since she stepped into the top job last month.

“I have had a number of conversations over the past five weeks now since the former Premier departed,” she said on Tuesday.

She said it wasn’t just Andrews she’d been leaning on for guidance during her chaotic first month in the big role.

“I’ve spoken to other former premiers as well because they’re a fabulous source of advice and support,” she said.

Former premier Steve Bracks, who selected Allan for his Cabinet in 2002, has said that Allan will be a “much more inclusive leader than we have had in the past”.

‘It is what it is’: Gavin Preston’s philosophy follows him to the grave

Gavin Preston has taken his unique nickname and a philosophical attitude to the grave.

A passer-by at the Altona Memorial Park in Melbourne’s west was visiting a loved one last week when she noticed the new plot for the formidable underworld figure.

The plaque was clearly prepared with some passion by someone who knew Preston.

Taking prominence was a cross bearing a gold plaque engraved with the name Gavin Capable Preston.

Attached to the plot was a small timber plaque which had clearly been prepared with some passion by someone who knew Preston.

It contained the phrase “It is what it is” and also included the nickname Capable.

Preston earned his moniker because he was regarded in gangland and police circles as someone who was capable of anything.

That was until September 9 when he was shot dead by two men at the Sweet Lulu’s Cafe in Keilor.

Sydney man Jaeden Tito was arrested last week in the Harbour City and charged with murder.

The investigation, as cops like to say, remains ongoing.
