The Source: Fashion brand’s ill-fated Dannii Minogue shout out

If fashion labels plan on crowing about celebrities wearing their clothes, it’s typically a good idea to spell their name correctly.

Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers.

Fashion is so transitional: changing seasons, fresh shapes, evolving ideas.

But, babe, a new name?

It would appear so for trailblazing pop star turned designer and fashionista Danielle Jane Minogue, better known worldwide, globally, like everywhere, as Dannii.

However, clothing label Forever New, frothing to get word out about Minogue wearing their gear, hurriedly left out a crucial ‘n’ and ‘i’ in its excited blast-out to media.

“Get the look,” Forever New said. “Dani Minogue wears …” Well, you know the rest.

It comes after a recent publicity blitz by — ahem — Dannii after 30-something years in the biz as a solo artist, with classic hits including All I Wanna Do and Put The Needle On It.

“It’s amazing that I survived,” she said.

Amen to that — to both Dani and Kylee.

For the record, Minogue is not a Forever New ambassador, and has not done a campaign with the label.

Fifty candidates ends in staffroom hire at top school

It’s always nice to know that you’ve picked the right person for the job.

But the modern process of fielding candidates can sometimes seem, well, rather excessive.

Look at the AFL’s search for a new chief executive, which threw up more names and angles than the final episode of Deadloch.

Or take Clarendon College, in Ballarat, which through recruiter Fisher Leadership considered 50 expressions of interest before appointing a new principal to replace the long-serving David Shepherd.

The next principal is the now deputy principal, Jen Bourke.

In an announcement, the school praised Bourke as “outstanding”, “admired”, “collaborative and committed” and “unquestionably committed”.

Which makes you wonder why did Clarendon College employ so much effort and expense when the best candidate had been hanging out in the staffroom for the past 18 years?

Harry is gone but is Beetlejuice on the way?

His blockbuster shows, including Hamilton, Mary Poppins, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, & Juliet, and The Picture Of Dorian Gray, rejuvenated Melbourne’s theatre industry, especially post-Covid.

But Australian producer Michael Cassel who’s had an indelible footprint in Melbourne’s East End theatre district this year, with Poppins, Potter and Juliet, occupying Her Maj, the Princess, and Regent, respectively, at the same time, is set to hit pause before his next takeover.

“Next year, given the way schedules work, and availability of shows and theatres, we’ll be a little bit quieter in Melbourne,” Cassel said.

“Certainly, beyond 2024, we’ve got a lot of shows on our list of things to do, and we’ll be ensuring they get to Melbourne as quickly as we can.”

Cassel’s co-productions overseas include the Michael Jackson musical, MJ, on Broadway, and Dorian Gray, starring Sarah Snook, on the West End.

With Sydney staging hit musicals Wicked, Beauty and the Beast, and Tina this year, it seems likely Melbourne will see those shows in 2024. Beetlejuice and Back To The Future are also eyeing Melbourne for theatre runs.

Cassel has regularly praised Melbourne as Australia’s cultural capital. He said: “It’s wonderful to be part of that fabric and community.”

Melbourne theatre fans are awaiting the arrival of Beetlejuice and Back to the Future.
