The personalised numberplates that VicRoads rejected

THESE are the numberplates VicRoads said couldn’t be seen on our roads. References to Hitler, drugs and God were all banned.

A bid by a Sunbury motorist for the plate KKKMAN was stopped on the same grounds.

Other plates with inappropriate religious references included 4JESUS, NEOGOD, VJESUS, XC60DS and GOD1ST.

Drivers who wish to personalise their vehicles can pay up to $2000 for the privilege of owning custom-designed rego plates.

Vplates.com.au, a VicRoads website on which motorists can request personalised plates, says it is “occasionally necessary” to reject applications or withdraw certain combinations from use if they are deemed inappropriate for public display.

Among the many unsuccessful applications last year, three were rejected as the proposed rego plates contained drug references.

They were 4DRGTR, 0PIUM, and JAKTUP.

Nine plates never made it onto the road as they were deemed to be poking fun at the law.

They were FKCOPS, COPCZN, VANDL, PIGPLZ, 1HOON, NOLAW2, ONTHRN, GUPIG, LSXPIG.

A bid by a Murrumbeena motorist for the plate IDRUNK was rejected as it contained a bad road safety message.

VicRoads spokeswoman Kristina Atanasovski said it sold about 30,000 new sets of customised numberplates each year.

If inappropriate plates sneak through and are caught later, VicRoads asks that they are returned and issues the motorist with a refund.

Sixty plates — or 44 per cent — were rejected on the grounds of inappropriate language.

Examples included FOOKED, SHTSON, OLDFKR and FATTHO.

Sixteen motorists’ rego plate creations were blocked amid concerns that they could lead other motorists to the conclusion that their vehicles were connected with a tow-truck company.

One proposed plate by a enterprising Strathmore motorist — VNATO — was rejected as VicRoads believed there was a risk it could be misrepresented as being affiliated with the security organisation.
