The craziest tattoos include KFC Zinger boxes and Dusty

There’s no denying the popularity of tatts but there’s some questionable ones. Forget the names of old flames, we’re talking Dusty montages and KFC. Check these out.

A Richmond ‘superfan’ has inked her devotion to the Tigers with extraordinarily detailed tattooed portraits of two of her favourite players.

Images of Dustin Martin and Jake King in full flight were tattooed onto the forearm of the Richmond supporter - known as Tracey - at the City Of Ink studio in South Melbourne on Friday by tattoo artist Karlo Escuadro.

City of Ink owner Jake King said tattoos were based on photos of the pair that were then made into a stencil that Escuadro worked from.

The tattooing took seven hours with the client thrilled with the result.

“She had been a die-hard fan forever,” King said.

King said City of Ink had done several tattoo portraits of Dusty in the past for Richmond fans but it was the first time he had been included in a montage with the Brownlow Medallist.

It comes as cartoon character, childlike tatts are growing in popularity. Even the Western Bulldogs’ Tom Liberatore is sporting them.

Here’s a few of the tatts we are loving to hate

Zinger box

Jarryd Neeves thinks his tattoo is finger lickin’ good.

Mr Neeves got his Zinger box tattoo at Tooradin Tattoo last week, and has since grossed more than 1200 likes on Facebook.

“I got the tattoo as it’s my favourite food to eat. So why not have it on my body forever?” Mr Neeves said.

“I get comments on it every day. My friends love it and think it’s amazing – Mum wasn’t too happy with it though,” he added.

Cowboy Ghost

This cowboy ghost is un-boo-lievably cool, at least in its owner’s mind.

Max Waldron’s ghostly tattoo was completed by ‘Mr Heggie’, a famous English tattoo artist, when Mr Waldron travelled overseas a couple of years ago.

“Ghosts are Mr Heggie’s signature. I liked the cowboy one and made up the inscription based on a meme I saw once,” Mr Waldron said.

Donkey Kong with a VB

Donkey Kong can smash more than just bananas - that’s the point the owner of this tatt wanted to make in ink.

“Donkey Kong is pretty cool. Donkey Kong drinking VB is a lot cooler,” he said.

“I got the tattoo in Melbourne a couple of years ago. All of my friends think it’s hilarious – Mum and Dad, not so much.”

The Simpsons’ Blinky three-eyed fish

Tom Zemp loves his fin-tastic tattoo, inspired by Blinky – the three-eyed fish from The Simpsons.

“I remember Blinky made his first appearance on The Simpsons when I was in Year 8,” Mr Zemp said.

“He always looked so cool. It’s a great design and now he’s a part of me forever.”

Ren and Stimpy

Throwing it back to the 90s, Tom Zemp also got a tattoo of the popular cartoon characters from the Ren and Stimpy Show.

“It’s such a funny and warped show that has always stuck with me,” Mr Zemp said.

“I still watch it today. When other Gen-Xers see the tattoo it always brings a smile to their faces.”

Cowboy Gumby riding a shark

Christopher Leunig couldn’t resist getting a tattoo of Gumby riding a shark, describing the cartoon character as “a good guy with a big heart”.

“Since his inception he has always been a champion for the people,” Mr Leunig said.

“He also plays in a funkadelic band.

“As for the shark, I just love them and in no way consider them monsters of the sea.”

Snake on a sword

This tattoo is one for the game-lovers.

Black Heart Tattoo Parlour artist Kurt Rogers, completed the snake and dagger tattoo in late 2018.

“The client came to me wanting to put a modern take on traditional snake and dagger by using elements from two of his favourite video games,” Mr Rogers said.

“The snake is from Donkey Kong and the sword is from Zelda.”

Rock and roll skull

Kurt Rogers also completed this skull-ful rock’n’roll tattoo in November last year.

“My client came to me with a little sketch that he did himself and wanted me to spruce it up and put my own spin on it,” Mr Rogers said.

Beaver with a watermelon

This beaver with a watermelon is a tribute to the owner’s daughter, with the beaver being her favourite stuffed toy, watermelon her favourite snack and hat and sunnies the things she most loves to wear. Now, that’s devotion!

Hot diggity dog

A young Geelong region personal trainer who loves hotdogs thought it would be a good idea to get a tattoo of his favourite food inked on the side of his calf.

These days he’s looking for socks long enough to cover it.

“My mum absolutely hates it and so does my girlfriend,” he said. “But I like it.”
