Jockey Damien Oliver was joined by youngsters Mia, 10, Jack, 7, and Flynn, 4, as well as clerk of the course horse, Archie, to celebrate the association.

“With each nomination fee of $500 going directly to the Good Friday Appeal, I would urge any trainers and owners who are yet to nominate their horse for The All-Star Mile to do so before entries close,” Racing Victoria chief executive Giles Thompson said.

Director of the Good Friday Appeal, Anne Randall, said it was another example of the community coming together to support the Royal Children’s Hospital.

“The money raised will help support our great hospital by funding state-of-the-art equipment,

groundbreaking research, education and family-centred care, all of which benefit our most

vulnerable children,” she said.

In a first on Australian shores, the All-Star Mile sees nominated horses voted for by fans, with the top 10 going on the card.

Racing Victoria chooses four wildcards to round out the field.

With a prize pool of $5 million and winner’s purse of $2.25 million, the first All-Star Mile will take place at Flemington on March 16, and will annually rotate through Caulfield, Moonee Valley and Flemington.

Voting for the field begins on January 21.
