Another balmy weekend is on the way for Melbourne with unseasonably warm temperatures settling over the state. But is it too early to put away the winter clothes?

Melbourne is locked and loaded for another warm weekend, with some spring-like temperatures on the cards.
The rain is not due to stop completely but will be buffered with temperatures reaching 21 and 22 degrees Celsius – about eight and ten degrees above average for this time of year.
Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Bettina Hill said Melbourne was on the receiving end of a “north to northwesterly kind of flow” responsible for bringing in warmer temperatures.
“It’s been heating up in the centre of the country, and it’s actually quite a big air mass that has been brought down from the centre of the country down towards Victoria,” Ms Hill said.
“All of that warm Central Australian air is making its way down here, so that’s why we’ll be seeing those days over 20 degrees.
“It’s not going to feel too unusual for people because of the week we’ve just had – it’s only a matter of days since we’ve felt this before, but it is still unusual for the season, because it should still be winter.
“Whilst it will be a bit warmer this weekend, we still have a few showers around so it won’t be some of those nice, sunny days we were experiencing last week.”
The warmth comes ahead of a predicted hot September, with an “extreme temperatures” warning earmarked for next month.
Miss Hill said Victoria’s west and north were most likely to be on the receiving end of the upcoming extremities while Melbourne would be more temperate.
“It has been drier than average through most of the west and north for the last 12 months, so quite the change after the floods a few years ago.
“We’re going from one extreme to the next, it seems.”
