Chadstone shopping centre will undergo a $71m expansion, which will include dodgem cars, bowling and a new range of eateries.
The Social Quarter at Chadstone, which will have a staggered opening from November spanning more than 10,350 sqm, will include six new dining retailers including Cinque Terre, Cityfields, Piccolina Gelateria, White + Wong’s, Sardine Bar, and UA Brewing Co.
There will also be four new entertainment brands such as Archie Brothers that will feature dodgem cars, Strike Bowling, Holey Moley and Hijinx Hotel.
Holey Moley will feature 18 pop-culture holes with an unprecedented level of detail and interactivity, while Hijinx will be an immersive venue with 10 game rooms.
The precinct was designed in collaboration with leading architects and builders including Jackson Clements Burrows (JCB), Buchan, Decibel, Lat Studios and Hacer.
Vicinity Centres chief development officer Carolyn Viney said the centre’s team was “proud” to be adding something unique to Chadstone.
“With the breadth of entertainment and dining options on offer, the first-of-its-kind precinct is a place where, no matter your age, the hour of the day, or the time of the year, you’ll find a destination that encourages play and celebration,” Ms Viney said.
“We’re excited to be able to welcome visitors to enjoy high-end restaurants with spectacular views across Melbourne to the CBD and views to the sky through the state of the art louvred glass roof made up of 468 individually glazed pieces,” she said.
“The Social Quarter will also showcase a new integrated art facade which envelopes the multi-deck car park in this part of the centre.
“We are also happy to announce that The Social Quarter development has created more than 250 new jobs during construction with another 370 roles to be on offer once completed.”
Ms Viney said Chadstone’s collection of retailers, entertainment and eateries meant shoppers could experience everything under one roof.
“Whether it’s shopping, dining, leisure or celebration during the week, weekend, day or night, it’s all there.
“Combining all of these retailers under one place gives us a point of difference in the market and offers something to families.”
