New renders of the proposed $900m Melton Hospital, which is expected to open in 2029, can now be exclusively revealed by the Herald Sun.

The hospital, the first in Australia to be fully electric, will provide care for 130,000 patients and offer a 24-hour emergency department with capacity to treat 60,000 patients annually.

Releasing the new render images of the hospital’s design on Saturday, the Minister for Health Infrastructure Mary-Anne Thomas will outline how it will support the communities of Melton, Caroline Springs, Rockbank, Bacchus Marsh and Gisborne.

Melton is the fourth largest-growing municipality in Australia and the Melton Hospital will have not only 274 beds, but an ICU, maternity and neonatal services and provide services for mental health, radiology and outpatient care. There will also be teaching, training and research spaces.

Ms Thomas will also announce the signing of the exclusive public-private partnership with Western Health operating the service and Exemplar Health consortium to design, finance, build and maintain the new hospital for 25 years.

“Melbourne’s west is one of the fastest growing regions in the country and it is critical that families moving to the area can rely on 24-hour world-class health care right on their doorstep,” Ms Thomas said.

Member for Melton Steve McGhie said the signing of the public-private partnership was a significant milestone.

“It is exciting to be another step closer to transforming Melton into a major hub – it will make a big difference to the community.”
