Have you been dreaming of a lotto win worth nearly $900,000?

It might be easier to see if you’ve got money sitting in the State Revenue Office.

That’s the reality for one Box Hill man, who has a whopping $882,697 waiting to be claimed.

An Ardeer woman, meanwhile, is sitting on a nearly $260,000 windfall, while a South Yarra woman is believed to have 72 entitlements totalling more than $170,000.

But they may not yet know it.

Victorians are being urged to head online to see if they are among thousands of lucky people with a claim on a pool of unclaimed money topping $109m.

The State Revenue Office holds records of money that remain unclaimed after 12 months including refunds, rents and bonds, share dividends, salaries and wages, debentures, interest and proceeds from sales.

Across the state, 678,000 entitlements are waiting to be claimed, with the majority of these having been held for less than a decade.

A record 45,653 claims, worth $13,633,759, are from people living in the city, with inner city areas Stonnington ($7,516,798), Boroondara ($7,103,869) and Port Phillip ($5,620,411) also home to many potential claimants.

In regional Victoria, Mornington Peninsula leads the way with $2.8m sitting in the coffers, followed by the Yarra Ranges with $2m.

The State Revenue Office also holds all winnings from TAB, Tattersalls, Intralot and Tabcorp.

A winning ticket from March 2016, worth a cool $2,136,327, is still yet to be picked up.

Treasurer Tim Pallas called on Victorians to head online and conduct a search to see if they had some cash waiting for them.

“This is money that belongs to citizens and we want it in their hands,” he said.

“If the SRO is holding unclaimed money in your name you’ll know within seconds, and the process for recovery is straight forward.”

All Victorian businesses and trustees holding $20 or more in unclaimed money are reminded they must record and keep the money for at least 12 months, then lodge it with the SRO.
