A MULTIMILLION-dollar slice of Brighton East used for homeless accommodation will be sold off if the state Opposition is elected.
Residents in the affluent bayside suburb had slammed the state government for installing portable units on the public-owned site in South Rd.
The six one-bedroom units became home to five residents and a supervisor.

In a bid to appease upset local constituents, the Opposition has vowed, if elected in November, to move the residents to permanent accommodation and sell off the land.
Housing spokeswoman Georgie Crozier said the Coalition was working to “find a solution”. “If Martin Foley were doing his job properly and really listening to public housing tenants and local communities, then this project would not have gone ahead,” she said.
Liberal candidate for Brighton James Newbury said money from the sale, estimated at about $4 million, would be reinvested into permanent housing.
“Hundreds of local residents around the local area have expressed their concerns to me since these temporary structures were put up,” he said.
But Housing Minister Martin Foley said the election promise was the “Liberals showing their true colours”.
“Their only plan to address homelessness is to cut services, build nothing and leave thousands of Victorians out in the cold,” he said.
“This site provides safe, secure, temporary homes with on-site support services to help people get back on their feet.”
