Pinchy was regularly stationed outside Liberal Party events, as were union campaigners dressed as lobsters.

The eBay listing said Pinchy was retiring from politics “after a short but highly publicised career”.

It said despite appearing as an uninvited guest at a number of functions, Pinchy’s condition was “nothing to be crabby about”.

“This magnificent crustacean has travelled all around Victoria, greeting Liberal politicians wherever he went,” the ad said.

“Once we blew him up, he never let us down.

“Don’t miss a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to score a unique artefact of Victorian political history, by purchasing this sea-grade celebrity for yourself.”

Bidding on Pinchy had on Wednesday night reached $510.

The online auction is due to end next Wednesday.
