B-DOUBLE trucks would be banished from dozens of city roads, under a Greens push to stop the “rat run” through residential streets.

The Victorian Greens will on Wednesday unveil their call to block the large trucks from 27 roads in Melbourne’s north and northeast.

Those roads included Rosanna Rd and Burgundy, Jika and Dora streets in Heidelberg, Bolton St in Eltham, High Street in Northcote and Normanby Ave in Thornbury.

It would also include roads in Greensborough, Montmorency and Brunswick.

Greens Eastern Metro MP Samantha Dunn said B-Double trucks were using residential roads like they were freeways.

“They are a danger to local residents and commuters,” she said.

“They spew out air pollution and noise right on people’s doorsteps.

“There’s plenty of other options for b-doubles to get around our city.”

The Greens’ plan would see the 27 streets removed from the list of approved roads B-Double trucks can use.

B-Doubles are banned from dozens of roads and bridges across the state.

They may access some others, such as Lower Plenty Rd from Rosanna to Heidelberg, only with a permit or outside restricted hours.
