STATE and federal Labor are promising to join forces to add extra car spaces at western suburbs train stations.
Victorian treasurer Tim Pallas announced, if his government is re-elected next month, it would build or upgrade 1600 car spaces at Wyndham Vale, Werribee, Watergardens, Aircraft and Tarneit stations.
It is likely “multi-deck options” would be built at three of the four stations.

Mr Pallas said the project would cost about $22.5 million, and would be part of a promised $150 million Carparks for Commuters Fund.
The federal opposition has pledged $7.5 million for work at Tarneit station, through its $300 million national park and ride fund, if it is re-elected next year.
Mr Pallas said, before the last election, Labor promised to add 5000 extra parking space at metro train stations but had built 10,000.
“This is a growing community and we are going to have to continue to improve the quality of services,” he said.
Tarneit station opened in 2015 and has seen a huge surge in passengers since.
Its 1000-space carpark is typically full by 7.30am each weekday.
Federal opposition infrastructure spokesman Anthony Albanese said public transport was about more than just a train line or bus route.
His party has promised $300 million, if elected next year, to grow train station carparks across the country.
“It’s also about the surrounding infrastructure that makes it work for local residents,” Mr Albanese said.
