State Election 2018: New height limit pledge for buildings along bay as Matthew Guy hits the campaign trail

NEW two-storey height limits for properties along the beach in several key state seats have been promised by Opposition Leader Matthew Guy, who hit the campaign trail with his wife today.

NEW two-storey height limits for properties along the beach in several key state seats have been promised by Opposition Leader Matthew Guy.

Under a Coalition government, eight metre development limits would be introduced on the beach side of Nepean Highway, between Mentone and Frankston.

Mr Guy made the announcement in the marginal electorate of Carrum with candidate Donna Bauer, and was joined by his wife Renae on the campaign trail for the first time.

Mrs Guy also joined her husband and Ms Bauer on a tour of a charity called Mums Supporting Families In Need, which delivers food and clothing to disadvantaged families.

Right on message, Mrs Guy spoke about the high cost of living people had experienced, as Mr Guy made a more pointed political point.

“It’s out of control, the cost of living,” he said.

In Carrum, Mr Guy said the decision to introduce neighbourhood development zones and cap the height of buildings was because a section of “sky rail” being built in the suburb of Carrum could encourage developers to try for higher height limits.

“Development is killing the liveability of the area,” he said.

With a sense of optimism about his chances on November 24, he said: “As Premier I will get back in control of population growth.”

“Daniel Andrews and Labor’s 10-metre-plus high Sky Rail construction along the Frankston rail line has raised expectations of developers to get inappropriate high rise projects approved along the beautiful foreshore areas,” he said.

Mr Guy said he loved the fact Renae was joining him on the campaign trail because she kept him level-headed and gave him honest feedback about his performances.

Mrs Guy was also present at the Liberal Party’s campaign launch on Sunday, and the family — the couple have three children — are expected to continue to play a role.

Premier Daniel Andrews’s wife Cath and their three children have also featured in the ALP campaign launch and events.

Mr Guy praised the work of Mums Supporting Families in Need, saying the volunteers were doing amazing work.

He said an elected Liberal Nationals government would provide a $100,000 grant to help support their work.

Ms Bauer said this might help with crippling energy bills, and MSFIN founder Jodie said it would also help pay for their annual rent which had to be raised through donations.
