The Liberals have promised a permanent solution to drainage problems at Rangeview Primary School.

RANGEVIEW Primary School will receive a much-needed $1 million upgrade if the Coalition is re-elected this month.

Victorian Education Minister Martin Dixon and Mitcham state Liberal MP Dee Ryall, who is the state Liberal candidate for Ringwood, made the announcement at the Mitcham school today.

Principal Liz Barr said the money would allow the school to address the site’s significant drainage problem, which has seen water pooling in areas of the school.

“We’ve had a long history of drainage problems and water flow and concerns with some of the movement of the buildings and the damage being caused to pipes and drains,” Ms Barr said.

“We’d also be able to address majorly the area below the basketball court, which suffers from erosion, and possibly resurface it.”

Assistant principal Ian Bunston said fixing the drainage problem would deliver a significant boost for the school community.

“To have it fixed would certainly be great for our environment and for the safety of our kids,” Mr Bunston said.

Ms Ryall said she had long been aware of the ongoing concerns about drainage at the school.

“It’s a fabulous school but it’s had this underlying problem so I took the issue to the minister,” Ms Ryall said.

“I look forward to working with Rangeview Primary School as the local member in a re-elected Napthine Government to deliver this important investment for our community.”

When contacted by Whitehorse Leader, Ringwood Labor candidate Tony Clark said a Labor Government would implement a range of policies to support Victorian schools but did not mention plans for Rangeview Primary School.
