The Greens have claimed victory in Brunswick, taking the seat from Labor for the first time, while another potential Greens win remains too close to call.

Victoria Elections: Daniel Andrews re-elected as Premier

The Greens have claimed victory in Brunswick, winning the seat from Labor for the first time.

Sexual Health doctor Tim Read holds a 493 lead over Labor’s Cindy O’Connor.

Dr Read’s win takes the Greens lower house tally to two seats with Melbourne candidate Ellen Sandell likely to reclaim her spot. The count in Prahran remains too close to call but the Greens’ Sam Hibbins is marginally ahead.

RECAP THE STATE ELECTION

“For the first time Brunswick has gone Green. Since 1904 this seat was held by Labor, so this is historic,” Dr Read said.

Victorian Electoral Commission continued its counting in the election’s remaining tight seats today, but it now looks likely Labor will win in Hawthorn.

Both ALP and Liberal figures privately say that Liberal leadership aspirant John Pesutto’s seat has fallen to Labor, the ALP also believes it will win Bayswater from shadow frontbencher Heidi Victoria.

Caulfield, held by Liberal David Southwick, count was close but Labor had taken a slender lead, which may be hard for the incumbent to pull back.
