A hundred PSOs would be deployed from 10am to 6pm at 20 railway stations which have high daytime crime rates.
PSO shifts currently are from 6pm until the last train.
Mr Guy said the $57 million investment over four years would be welcomed. “This is the single biggest expansion since PSOs began,” he said.
“This is to keep people safe during the day when we are finding a lot of the crime is being committed.”
Frankston and Mordialloc would be the first stations to get daytime patrols. Both are in marginal Labor seats.
Frankston Liberal candidate and former police officer Michael Lamb said criminals increasingly used the train network during the day.
