IF you spot six renovated airstream caravans on a city rooftop, you are not dreaming.
In what’s believed to be a world first, a carpark rooftop in Flinders St in the City has been transformed into one of the most unique accommodation experiences you will ever have.
Called NOTEL — James Fry, who owns the carpark — has imported the airstream caravans from the United States, renovated them, and turned each into a five-star accommodation units.
The caravans have everything you need, including a bathroom which Fry has installed.
Fry got the idea after one day sitting on the rooftop of the three-storey carpark drinking beers with some mates.
He sourced the airstream caravans from Santa Barbara in the United States and purchased them for $70,000 each.
Two years later, and after lots of planning and hard work, NOTEL is now open.
Fry hosted the VIP opening for family and friends last Thursday night.
“There has been so much that has gone into it, so it’s exciting to see the concept finally open,” Fry told the Herald Sun.
The name NOTEL comes from the fact the venue is not a hotel — Fry wants to encourage guests to go out and explore Melbourne, whether it be the city’s restaurants or tourist attractions.
Prices start at $395 for a night to $440 for the premium suite, which features a spa overlooking Flinders Lane.
