Victoria’s bail system is broken — the community deserves tougher laws. Back the Herald Sun’s push for offenders to get a maximum three sets of bail before being held in jail.

The Herald Sun can reveal a crucial, common sense plan from Victoria Police command to tackle youth offending was ignored by the Allan government.

This came on top of earlier advice that softening bail laws would send crime rates “through the roof”.

While a hand-wringing Premier Jacinta Allan has promised legislative reforms are being worked on, she needs to urgently adopt a proposal to ensure at the very least, three chances at bail is more than enough for those young offenders who are actually willing to reform.
