Showers expected to fall at Flemington on Ladies Day

Hold on to your hats, ladies! It’s tough conditions for frocks and fascinators, but Oaks Day is well and truly underway at Flemington.

The weather isn’t ideal but that hasn’t stopped punters heading to Flemington for Oaks Day today.

But the later start time, with race one underway at 1.50pm, for Ladies Day could work against organisers at Flemington, with a high (90 per cent) chance of rain during the afternoon and evening.

Melbourne will reach a windy top of 17C today, with up to 4mm of rain expected.

WHY CUP WINNER MIGHT LOOK ABROAD

But Stakes Day on Saturday appears even more dire.

A high chance of rain, including some morning hail, means Melbourne’s maximum will be just 14C for the final meeting of the Melbourne Cup carnival.

It means three of the four big Flemington meetings for the season are likely to be affected by poor weather after it bucketed down during Derby Day last Saturday.
