A Melbourne family is in shock after a beloved mother died unexpectedly after a minor medical procedure, leaving behind her two young children and a heartbroken husband.

Hampton Park Women’s Health Clinic staff unsuccessfully tried to revive Harjit Kaur, 30, when she experienced a sudden episode while she was in recovery from a medical procedure on January 12.

Her devastated husband Sukhjinder Singh wrote in a GoFundMe that his wife had been at the clinic for a “minor procedure”.

The Herald Sun is not suggesting her death was linked to the procedure.

Mr Singh said his beloved wife’s hard work and struggle to give their kids, aged two and four, a “better future” had been “destroyed”.

“I am in deep pain to inform you about the [loss] of my wife,” he wrote.

“My life is destroyed in a minute. Everything is just destroyed.

“I’m in dark and unable to work with this grief and two kids.”

Hampton Park Women’s Health Clinic Dr Michelle Kenney said the unexpected death was a tragedy for Ms Kaur’s family and the staff, who worked desperately to save her.

“It’s just so sad,” she said.

She said Ms Kaur’s death was not linked to the surgery.

She explained Ms Kaur very suddenly became unwell and passed away while in recovery, with staff and paramedics trying for 45 minutes to revive her.

“We haven’t had anything like this in 20 years,” she said.

“Health professionals like to think we can save everyone, but we’re not God.

“We couldn’t have done anything.”

The Herald Sun understands the surgeon who performed the procedure has voluntarily stood down while the case is reviewed.

The local community has rallied behind Mr Singh, raising more than $47,000 to help pay for a funeral and to support the two children.

The Victorian Perioperative Consultative Council’s latest annual publication, its 2021 report, said the state’s audit of surgical mortality showed “surgery in Victoria remains extremely safe and is consistent with the best reported outcomes in the world”.

Ms Kaur’s death has been referred to the coroner.
