The king of spin joined AFL royalty at a private nightclub in Sydney on Thursday night.
Cricket legend Shane Warne was spotted enjoying a few bevvies with AFL great Wayne Carey at the exclusive Zephyr bar, high in the sky at the Hyatt Regency.
Warne was bombarded with fans wanting selfies and phone calls to aunties, uncles and friends, while Carey was enjoying some rare anonymity in sin city.
The pair were seen exchanging stories on the couch with fellow commentator Mark Howard, with Carey remarking to friends that the cricketing great was more well known than the king of Melbourne.
MUNDINE AND GREEN READY TO RUMBLE ONCE MORE
Aussie boxing greats Anthony Mundine and Danny Green are set to take each other on once more in the ring.
Talks have started between the pair, with a phone hook-up this week to discuss their next bout.
The arch rivals will face off in the ring for a 90-minute talk fest, set to kick off in Perth in the middle of next year.
Verbal jousting instead of punches are expected to be thrown at each other, as the boxers have now come to the realisation they don’t dislike one another as much as they thought.
A phone call this week between the pair – organised by Mundine’s business partner ‘Gosh’ of MGM management – saw the pugilists praise each other.
The bout could take place inside Perth’s Crown venue, with a boxing ring to be the centrepiece, or possibly a ring will be built at Optus Stadium.
Mundine and Green’s rivalry remains one of the Australia’s most talked about and profitable.
Their famous 2006 bout inside Sydney’s SCG set a new record for the most watched fight in Australian boxing history on Foxtel’s Main Event platform.
‘BURBLER’ ALSO SET TO RAISE FISTS
NRL star Todd Carney is also jumping into the ring, in another effort to resurrect his profile after the ‘pissing’ incident that cost him his NRL career.
The 2010 Dally M medallist, now known as the “Bubbler”, is taking on high-profile Sydney businessman Aboud Wehbe in a charity boxing match, with proceeds to go to Steps Of Hope, helping those affected by the Lebanon bombings last year.
Carney – who is now infamous for the toilet tryst with his own urine – is currently training for his amateur boxing debut and will be coached by boxing champion Michael Katsidis.
Wehbe, a well-known business figure and developer from Sydney tells Sheahan Ink tables are nearly sold out and they have so far raised close to $200,000 for those in need, without a punch being thrown
February 26 is when the two fighters face off in Sydney’s Bankstown in front of a crowd of close to 3000 spectators.
GOOD BLOKES MEET FOR GOOD CAUSE
Australia’s sporting heroes descended on Sydney this week to highlight men’s health through difficult times.
The game’s biggest names joined forces for the emerging men’s exclusive club, Good Blokes Society, at Sydney’s Hyatt Regency.
AFL stars Matthew Richardson, Wayne Carey, football journeyman turned Block auctioneer John Rombotis, Richmond player Kayne Pettifer, North Melbourne superstar Corey McKernan, Kangaroos premiership star Sam Kekovich and Hawthorn legend Dipper were joined by NRL stars Steve Blocker Roach and Wendell Sailor to highlight the importance of male health.
The Good Blokes Society (GBS) – provides a platform for like-minded men to develop business and social relationships – and aims to assist all of its members, whether it be in financial, health or emotional areas, and through the amazing work of founders Shaun Wallis, and Robert DiPierdomenico.
The luncheon which was attended by some 300 influential businessman and sporting legends generated and generated tens of thousands of dollars, to go to the next person in need.
