Detectives have released a new picture of missing camper Russell Hill as the search for him and his friend Carol Clay continues.

Mr Hill and Ms Clay have not been heard from since March 20 after they set out to go camping along the Wonnangatta River, near the Wonnangatta camp ground.

The newly released photo of the 74-year-old Drouin man shows him holding his drone which is also missing.

Police have been told that Russell purchased a DJI Mavic drone before going camping and the drone is still yet to be recovered.

The elderly friends’ disappearance remains a mystery after seven weeks of searching.

They have not made any contact with family or friends since setting out on the trip on March 19.

Mr Hill was last heard from on 20 March on HF radio and it has been confirmed he was at Wonnangatta Station in the Victorian Alps when he made the call.

Police are also looking to speak with anyone who may have noticed Mr Hill’s vehicle, a white Toyota LandCruiser, before it was found at their campsite near Dry River Creek Track on March 21.

The 4x4 had minor fire damage and detectives want to speak with anyone who may have noticed smoke or fire coming from it.
