Police have found human remains in the Grampians National Park in the state’s northwest.

Passers-by first came across the suspected remains in Bellfield bushland about 12.15pm on Monday.

It is understood the body is a male.

Deputy controller of the Stawell SES Brody Stewart said two crews were on scene at the Borough Huts campground, south of Halls Gap.

“We are assisting police with a body recovery,” Mr Stewart said. “We do a lot of searches this time of year.

“A body recovery is a bit more uncommon, it is not something that happens a lot.”
