Victoria’s favourite fun run has been postponed to early 2022.

The 16th Herald Sun/Transurban Run for the Kids was set to take place on August 29, but organisers were forced to reschedule the run due to ongoing Covid uncertainty.

Tens of thousands of runners were expected to take part in the event to raise much-needed money for the Good Friday Appeal.

Run for the Kids race director Steve Moneghetti said while postponing was disappointing, he knows it was “the right decision”.

“Under the current circumstances we could not guarantee a safe environment for everyone so we made the tough call,” he said.

“We always have the wellbeing of our participants, supporters and their families as our priority.”

Run for the Kids chairman Tom Salom said preparations were already under way for next year’s circuit around Docklands, the Bolte Bridge and the Domain Tunnel.

“I’m sure Victorians will embrace the event early next year and help to raise vital funds for the Good Friday Appeal,” Mr Salom said.

All money raised will go to funding vital projects, research and technical innovations, enabling the Royal Children’s Hospital to continue providing high quality treatment to every child that needs it.

Transurban Group Executive Victoria Henry Byrne said he is looking forward to welcoming all runners back next year “so we can enjoy this great event the way we know and love it”.
