Roof panel falls from ceiling at Bad Omens concert at Festival Hall

Confetti cannons appear to have caused a chuck of ceiling to fall on concertgoers attending a gig by US heavy metal band Bad Omens at Festival Hall in Melbourne.

Festival Hall ceiling collapse during Bad Omens concert

Confetti cannons appear to have caused more than just commotion at a heavy metal concert after large parts of plaster fell on festival goers.

Fans were rocking out to the band Bad Omens at Festival Hall on Wednesday night when confetti cannons fired off into the crowd.

However, as the confetti fell, so too did large chunks of plaster from the ceiling.

Videos of the plaster falling were posted to social media platforms including TikTok and X.

X user @AnaVK posted a photo of the plaster in the aftermath.

“Um @festivalhall, not sure chunks of plasterboard are meant to fall from the ceiling with confetti...?” she wrote.

“Abysmal venue – lucky no one got hurt.”

Another concert goer, TikTok user Smotty28, wrote her friend had been injured in the incident.

“They just stopped, had to finish their last song and not a word and just quickly went off after (ceiling fell second last song),” she wrote.

“I yelled for the medic to come over and they had to turn the lights on so the medics could get her out.”

Jodie-Anne Bennington suggested the venue should be checked.

“Confetti cannons fired and hit the ceiling and it loosened the tiles, should of (sic) checked that it was safe to fire them, the ceiling was to (sic) low for the cannons,” she said.

It’s understood the band is still set to play another concert on Thursday night.

In a statement to the Herald Sun, a Festival Hall spokesman said staff were conducting an immediate review of the special effects vendor and enacting additional safety checks before Thursday’s show.

“Thank you to our onsite first aid team who responded quickly. We have conducted an immediate review of the special effects vendor and additional safety checks before tonight’s show,” he said.

Ticketek on Thursday morning had sent out its normal reminders to ticket holders in anticipation of the event.

Emergency services have been contacted for comment.
