Former Lord Mayor Robert Doyle has given up his fight to stop the release of a report into his alleged sexual misconduct.

Mr Doyle lodged an injunction order in early December that stopped the City of Melbourne Council from finalising its investigation into allegations of his inappropriate behaviour during a Melbourne Health dinner in 2016.

The Supreme Court order was withdrawn on Friday, three days before a scheduled trial into the alleged sexual misconduct.

The investigation by Ian Freckelton, QC, was commissioned by the council after other sexual harassment claims came to light from two fellow councillors.

Earlier this week it was revealed a third complaint had been made to Victoria Police.

Mr Doyle has denied all claims against him.

City of Melbourne CEO Justin Hanney said the investigation could now continue, paving the way for the report to be publicly released.

“We welcome Mr Doyle’s decision to withdraw the Supreme Court action as this means we can now proceed with finalising Dr Freckelton QC’s independent investigation,” Mr Hanney said.

“We have always sought to ensure that the independent investigation progressed as quickly as possible in the interest of all parties, as well as in the broader public interest in this matter.”

The investigation can now be finalised and the full report released to the public.
