Rescue trio save dog stranded on Kensington rooftop

A heart-stopping near miss didn’t hold back a trio of rescuers, including two schoolboys, from saving this distressed pup after it somehow became stuck on a Kensington roof. WATCH

Two schoolboys and a mystery hero have performed a dramatic rescue of a dog stuck on a roof of a house in Kensington.

The distressed dog had been stranded on the roof and was barking at passers-by who raised the alarm.

It’s believed the dog got on the roof by scaling a construction site at the rear of a neighbouring property on Bellair St.

The two schoolboys, Raph Butler and Sweeny Beckinsale, both 17, were on their way home after an early finish at Mt Alexander College when they spotted the dog.

“We just saw the dog and this other guy went up to help and we just helped where we could,’’ Raph said.

The unidentified man, who left immediately after the rescue, slipped dangerously on the roof sheets as he tried to haul the large canine to safety.

The pooch was eventually dragged over the roof top and, when back on the ground, was given water and a spot on the porch to snooze away the afternoon.

Residents had earlier called police, Melbourne City Council and Lost Dogs’ Home, none of which were able to respond.

A fire truck pulled up after the dog was safely back on the ground.

The dog’s owner arrived home later but refused to comment.
