Rain or sunshine could be on the cards for summer in Victoria

VICTORIA could be facing a wet summer with a La Nina watch being issued this afternoon. So what are the chances?

IT’S a toss of the coin as to whether Victorians will bake through a hot, dry summer or need a brolly, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

A La Nina watch will be issued for Victoria this afternoon, meaning there is a 50 per cent chance we’re in for a wet summer.

But before we get carried away looking too far ahead, Melburnians can enjoy a glorious 29C Sunday — and then a chance of snow.

Today will reach a top of 21C with up to 2mm expected to fall over the city in the afternoon into the evening.

The temperature will dip to 20C tomorrow as up to 10mm pours down across Melbourne with light winds in the afternoon.

WHY THIS WEEKEND WILL BE A RIPPER

FRIDAY NIGHT’S WEATHER FORECAST FROCK FIASCO

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Dean Stewart said tomorrow will be the wettest day in the outlook.

Thursday will hit a top of 18C with a slight rain shower.

The weather will heat up on Friday to 26C just in time for a warmer weekend.

Saturday will hit 25C but there will be about 3mm of showers falling in the morning.

Melburnians can soak up a stellar 29C on Sunday with many expected to head to the beach.

But spring can bring many surprises with snow forecast to fall on the alpine region on Monday as the city shivers through a high of 17C and 5mm of rain.

Mr Stewart said there was “a chance” snow could fall on Monday.
“There is quite a strong front coming through on Sunday night — a burst of cold air coming over the state,” Mr Stewart said.

“It is not unusual for spring (to get snow) as we can get those strong front systems.”
