RADIO king Ross Stevenson is taking on television with a new food and travel show.

Stevenson is bringing his popular 3AW radio food and travel series, A Moveable Feast, to Channel 7 even though he admits to being no expert in current culinary trends.

Stevenson even pleads ignorance on common foodie terms such as deconstructed food and mason jars.

“Deconstructed food, what’s that?” Stevenson asked. “I thought it was the chef’s job to put the food together, not mine.”

Stevenson said when it came to dining out, he was a man of simple tastes. His favourite restaurant experiences had been where he was in the company of good mates, having a laugh.

While he was willing to give most food a go, sushi, oysters and any sort of raw meat were definitely out of the question. He also baulked at having to queue for food or sit at a communal table.

Stevenson said he relied on his host, Kate Stevenson (no relation), to help explain some of the more technical elements of the food world.

Kate Stevenson is a producer for 3AW’s Breakfast with Ross and John and has been the show’s resident food reviewer for five years.

She laughed that she recently had to explain what fermented food was to a baffled Ross.

“But I am no expert either,” she said. “When the boys first asked me to be their reviewer, I said: ‘But I am not a chef or a professional critic.’

“That’s the beauty of it. People want to hear from someone who is just like them.”

The six-episode series will screen on Seven on from Sunday June 4 at 5.30pm.

Stevensons visits places as far afield as the Otway Ranges to the up-and-coming bars and cafes of Northcote and Thornbury.

While he enjoyed filming the show, Stevenson said he did not see himself following the likes of Kyle Sandilands and Steve Price, and making a more serious jump to TV.

“Radio is what I do. I like the spontaneity of it and it’s gloriously convenient really. But it’s fun to take some time out to play in the backyard that is television,” he said.
