The Victorian Liberal Party has chosen who will contest the seat of Prahran in the upcoming by-election.
Rachel Westaway has been selected by party members during a meeting on Sunday afternoon to contest the upcoming by-election, sparked by the resignation of former Greens MP Sam Hibbins.
Hibbins resigned from the role after his affair with a staffer was exposed and a complaint to Parliamentary services being made.
Ms Westaway was “thrilled” to have been chosen and is running a campaign based around a “stronger voice” that puts locals first.
“The people of Prahran, South Yarra, Windsor and St Kilda East are sick of the rising cost of living issues facing them, and the violent crime that impacts our entire community,” she said.
Currently serving as the President of the Thai Australian Chamber, which supports Victoria’s Thai businesses and communities, Ms Westaway wants to further “celebrate the diversity” of the electorate.
“I have lived in the seat of Prahran for 20 years raising my children and intend to work extremely hard.”
The by-election will be held on 8 February in what will be a showdown with the Greens after Labor chose not to contest the seat.
