The cost of the cheapest tickets to next month’s AFL finals will be frozen, but prices of the next tier of seats for September action will rise 5 per cent and the best grand final passes by 10 per cent.
The AFL will on Monday announce entry level tickets to all four weeks of the finals, including the grand final, will remain the same as last year, with many seats to cost the same as they did in 2016.
Entry level tickets for weeks one to three of September action will cost the same as they did nine years ago, $35 for the first two weeks and $65 for the third week.
But the cost of all other ticket categories in weeks one to three will increase by 5 per cent.
And while the cost of an entry level reserved seat to the grand final will remain $185 for a sixth year in a row, there will be a flat 10 per cent increase on all other categories.
The Herald Sun can also reveal a new seating category will operate for finals at the MCG, allowing fans to see exactly where they will be seated instead of just categories A, B, C and D.
It is the same system that has worked during the home and away season but will be introduced for finals for the first time, with fans asked to choose whether they want to sit on level one, two, three or four.
New categories will include level one wing, level one behind cheer squads and upper and lower levels of each tier.
AFL executive Kylie Rogers said the price freeze honoured the commitment of members and fans who supported their clubs every week.
“Our commitment remains to keep finals footy prices as an affordable option and thank the members and fans who have supported their clubs through the ups and downs,” she said.
“We have such an exciting couple of months ahead, the thrilling crescendo of the men’s home and away season, into our 2024 AFLW season, and the 2024 AFL Finals Series.”
Ticket on-sale dates would be announced soon, with members getting first access.
The most expensive grand final ticket in 2024 is $493, compared to $448 in 2023.
“The AFL Grand Final is one of the biggest and best sporting events in the world and the fortunate reality is we could sell out the 100,000 seat MCG four times over,” Ms Rogers said.
“For the ticketing release in September we will always prioritise our competing club members, with the biggest share of tickets available to those two competing clubs, and this year more available to those members.”
General admission tickets to the footy at the MCG and Marvel Stadium were this year frozen for the tenth year in a row.
Kids will also be admitted free for the final round of the home and away season in Victoria.
