Homes across the state were battered by wild weather overnight, with wind speeds in Port Phillip Bay reaching up to 128 km/h.
Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson Miriam Bradbury said wild winds impacting Melbourne were the result of an incoming cold front likely to impact residences across the state.
“We are also expecting the possibility of some thunderstorms today, more likely in the northern and far eastern suburbs, which may bring further gusts,” she said.
Ms Bradbury said that suburbs around the bay and in northern parts of Melbourne felt the brunt of the wild weather overnight, but winds were likely to “ease off” throughout today.
